Burnt Sienna: gratitude and rest
The warm breath of the earth preparing for rest.
The color burnt sienna rises from the earth itself after the sun has set. It is a color that has a certain stillness: it likes to appear in the autumn, towards the darkness, glowing between ochre and the magenta of sunset, carries a feeling of gratitude and completion: the harvest is done, the rhythm of the world slows, and summer’s light becomes a quiet memory within the heart.
Light expands, darkness receives, and color / like the human soul /is born in the living dialogue between them.
Within the threefold human being:
thinking, feeling, willing,
the same movement unfolds.
Thinking withdraws like sap into the roots, feeling deepens and warms, willing begins to prepare new inner growth.
Egon Schiele - Sunflower - 1909
In the midst of autumn, we can go for a walk everyday to soak up the blessing of nature’s colors, gather and dry fallen leaves of every shape and hue, harvest and roast chestnuts, discover the quiet secrets hidden in an apple, or follow the memory that the scent of cinnamon awakens in our hearts. We can collect branches and kindle the first gentle fire.
